If you’re watching a movie, you might see a little blooming when the controls come up over black, especially if you’re looking at the display off-axis. We got some questions about whether closed captions would cause blooming when watching a video, and the answer is it’s a non-issue: YouTube captions display over a gray box anyway, and Apple TV and Netflix captions mostly display over the video itself that is another for Best Apple Macbook Pro for college students.

Apple made a big deal about how bright this display can get — it’s an XDR display, just like the Pro Display XDR. Unless you get the new Midnight color. This new color is gorgeous out of the box, with a deep blue-black finish that can change depending on the light. But as soon as you pick it up, it gets covered in greasy fingerprints that are a chore to clean off. It really mars what is otherwise a striking finish. Apple’s far from the only company to face this problem with dark aluminum — Razer’s laptops have been fingerprint magnets for years — but it’s enough of an issue that I wouldn’t buy the Midnight model. I’ve also had the opportunity to test a model in the silvery-gold Starlight color, and its surface stays fingerprint-free.

Despite that thinner profile and lighter weight, the new Air is no less solid or well-built than before. The chassis is stiff, the lid has next to zero flex, and it still can be opened with a single finger. Apple remains at the top of the field when it comes to build quality and fit and finish, and the new Air is no exception that is another for Best Apple Macbook Pro for college students.

Charger:

After testing the MacBook Air with both the 35W and 67W chargers, I have to say I was disappointed with the performance of the former. While it’s certainly compact and portable, I found that it only charged the laptop to 25 percent in 30 minutes with the lid closed – a rate that was half as fast as the 67W charger.

To make matters worse, the charging speeds were further slowed down when I plugged my iPhone into the charger’s other port, which was a real inconvenience. Given these limitations, I personally would opt for the more powerful charger, especially if I’m in a hurry to get some work done on my laptop.

One minor quibble I have with the 67W charger is that it only has one port, which means you can’t charge your laptop and another device at the same time. The keys have adequate travel, are comfortably spaced, and are much quieter than the previous butterfly keyboard models. The trackpad isn’t hugely different from older models, but it’s slightly wider and functions the same, with excellent scrolling, gesture support, and palm rejection.

An interesting change in the new Air is the absence of speaker grills found on most MacBook models, with the speakers now integrated between the keyboard and display, providing a cleaner look. If you’re upgrading from an older Intel-based MacBook, you’ll appreciate the improvement in the keyboard the most, as the butterfly keyboard on the older models was notoriously bad.

Speaker:

The speaker system on the new MacBook Air has received an update, with two tweeters and two woofers, and supports Apple’s Spatial Audio technology. While they are not on par with the thumping speakers on the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros, the new speakers sound fuller and less echo-y compared to the previous M1 Air. Even at full volume, the difference is not drastic.
